Visa for residence (longer than 12 months)

A numerous list of visa options is available to foreigners who wish to establish residence in Portugal (stay for more than 12 months in Portuguese territory). The choice of the most suitable one is related to the purpose of its coming.

It is important to mention that visas need to be applied for before coming to Portugal and the Competent Authority to receive the process may be the Portuguese Embassy closest to the residence or VFS Global (company authorized by the Embassy), depending on the location. This type of visa allows for family reunification, which can also be applied for in advance.
